Security Center: Individual App Permissions
Silent OS gives you control over individual app permissions, so that you can decide whether a particular app gets access to your camera, your contacts, your location, and so on. To adjust the permissions settings for a particular app, start in Security Center and tap on the “APPS” tab:
Tap on any app to see what permissions it currently has and adjust those permissions as needed. There are many possible permissions requested by applications; here are some examples:
- Keep awake: the app can keep your phone from going to sleep
- Vibrate: the app can make your phone vibrate (usually for app notifications, like receiving an email)
- Location: the app can access your location based on GPS, Wi-Fi, cell towers, etc
Depending on the type of permission requested, you may have the option to simply allow or deny the permission (by using a slider to turn it on or off) or choose from multiple settings. “Keep awake,” for example, has only two options, depicted with a slider — grey/left for disabled, green/right for enabled
Other settings, like Location, have Allow, Deny, or Default options, accessible by tapping the current setting:
If you select Allow, the app will always be granted the specific permission; Deny will always deny it. If you select Default, the system will prompt you to allow or deny each time the app requests the specific permission.
You can tap on any specific permission type for more information about it.
Remember that individual app permissions are set on a per-Space basis. If you have set up multiple spaces on your phone, editing the permissions of an app in one space will not affect its permissions in a different space.
Please note that after you make changes to permission settings, you must reboot your phone before they will take effect!
