Watch Silent Circle's film, developed in partnership with The Guardian, designed to raise awareness and promote best practices for privacy and data protection.

Data Privacy Day is designed to raise awareness and promote best practices for privacy and data protection.

To celebrate today and in partnership with The Guardian, we’re releasing this short film investigating the current state of global privacy in the digital age. It reveals what privacy enables for business as well as what we are leaving exposed to misuse.

To better articulate the issue, over the past 6 months, editors, reporters, security experts and thought leaders from The Guardian and Silent Circle contributed articles and videos examining different aspects of privacy in the modern world. You can find the full series here.

Our goal is simple: to turn the conversation around privacy from one of fear to one of positivity. To explore what privacy means. To look at where we are now, how we got here, where we’re going next, and how we can protect our companies, employees and partners.

Privacy is an approach as well as an outcome. For an enterprise, it requires policy AND security. Business is now conducted on the calls and text messages of every employee’s device—increasingly their own personal ones. And the fact is, security solutions simply have not caught up with the growth in mobile. As a result, every employee’s device is a risk. Imagine 50,000 people accessing your network on their personal devices and the exposure it creates.

At Silent Circle we believe that protecting mobile communications may be the strongest form of corporate security possible. Our Enterprise Privacy Platform—a unique system of software, services and devices—is built for the modern enterprise and designed to easily secure all of the communications throughout an organization, from the intern to the CEO.

Privacy is a complex, often conflicted issue. As an employer you have a responsibility to provide tools and technologies to protect both your business and your employees. Oversimplified generalizations will not advance awareness of the problems, nor will they lead to long-term answers. Stricter regulations and policies always come late—if they come at all—so education, awareness and a forward thinking approach to security are the best tools we have.

That’s why we want to take a broader, deeper look at the topic. That’s why we want this to feel like a conversation instead of a lecture. We want companies and people to walk away better informed and, more importantly, better equipped to take control of their privacy.

We hope you enjoy this film. Please feel free to share it widely.
